A New Season Launches This Month!

It is very exciting times at the Edifice Atelier! Over the past twenty years we have brought forward our celebrated intern training programs and have now mentored student interns around the world to repair and maintain these irreplaceable buildings filled with character and quality.

The Heritage Professional Intensive Programmes provides a detailed knowledge of how buildings are constructed and function, and the various mechanisms by which their structural, material, and environmental conditions can be affected by neglect, modern materials and/or poor workmanship. You must keenly understand these building and how they function before you are qualified to work on them.

Hello, I am Dr. Christopher Cooper, Director of Education at the Edifice Atelier, I have had a wonderful four-decade love affair and career with heritage buildings around the world, including commercial, public, and residential. I am the founder and chief architect of the Edifice Atelier Institute. There is no other stand-alone course available in the world that covers what the Edifice Atelier exclusively teaches, mentors, and promotes.

These Intensives trains the prospective student intern on how to investigate and address the general repair and maintenance of heritage buildings both commercial and residential in a sympathetic and sustainable manner.

These professional intensive programmes will provide you with a clear understanding of how the existing heritage building was meant to function prior to the modern age of construction (pre-1950’s) and how best to remediate problems without creating new issues to the historic fabric of the structure.  Most heritage buildings function better with a full understanding of how they were originally built and how to make those systems work again to the benefit of the property owner.

The aim of the course is to provide technical training around the key principles of Heritage renewal and preservation and provide you with knowledge and techniques in a multidisciplinary role. Our programmes are suited to those who want a change in career as well as the ability to work on building up to a full-time business in restoration whilst still working in your current profession or employment.

Once the course is completed and final examination essay is reviewed with a passing grade, you will receive a one-year membership to the Edifice Guild with all the benefits of a full member to open your consultancy in built heritage. Because you are an Edifice Guild’s Member, I will be there for you personally as your mentor, have a question, something has you stumped? That’s what I am here for, so that you can benefit from my four decades of hands-on experience.

We seek individuals who are ready, willing, and able to train for careers in the heritage field, it is our soul commitment to our built heritage. Our Professional Intensive Programmes are demanding, and we only offer a few seats a year. Therefore, we are very selective in our admissions process. We strive to break down barriers with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

So… Start your path to a new career in Heritage Preservation and Repair, you can start the ball rolling by submitting a preliminary application today and request a one-on-one Zoom session with me. Peruse the programmes listed below and I look forward to hearing from you.

We are now taking applications for the 2023 session of the Heritage Maintenance Guild Programme. Edifice has been the guiding light for consumers for the past two decades. These consumers rely on Edifice to provide them with the best advice and recommendations for their heritage properties.
