Women in the Trades

We are a proud supporter of Women in the Trades! We would like to encourage more women (our current ratio is 85%) to enter the field as well as people who have recently retired, it is never too late to forge a new and creative future in all our courses both professional and personal.

All workshop attendees and professional intensive applicants and students will always have an inclusive nurturing environment without regard to race, colour, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status.

Edifice and Old Home Living is committed to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity educator providing a very safe comfortable environment for all.

A Note From an Alumnus:

I completed the Historic Home Preservation/Maintenance Guild training program at the Edifice Guild & Atelier. This intensive includes historic window preservation, clapboard/siding installation and maintenance, painting (colours, proper application, etc.), house style and window style identification, water management, roofing options and proper installation, rebuilding and refinishing historic doors, Traditional Lime Mortar repair of stone and brick, insulation and weatherization, porches and porticos, safety, etc…

They offer both online and in-person learning with intensives (building accessory structures, window restoration, mortar, etc.) and have a guild model that includes experts working together and sharing knowledge, mentorship and referrals for work. I learned so much, and enjoyed the courses so very much, that I also took their Building Pathology Course. Dr. Christopher Cooper, who runs the program, is an architect and is just amazing! Over two thirds of their program participants are female, and people with disabilities are also welcome and can work in the trades too!
