i am book | SYNOPSIS

Amid the Great Depression, 15-year-old Alice Primrose embarks on a journey of self-discovery in a quiet countryside town in Nova Scotia. Despite the hardship and poverty that surrounds her, Alice finds beauty and hope in the simplest of things. She forms a powerful bond with her grandfather Sam Addington, a well travelled and wise man who teaches her about the power of storytelling and imagination through her beloved books. Through her experiences, Alice learns to embrace her own unique identity and finds the strength to overcome the challenges that life throws her way.

Alice’s captivating journey through the pages of “the book” begins with a gift in 1932 from her beloved grandfather—a book filled with vivid imagery and unusual tales. As she delves into the stories, Alice finds herself transported to a fantastical world where the ordinary becomes extraordinary. We follow Alice’s adventures as she encounters peculiar characters, navigates wonderful landscapes, and confronts her own inner thoughts, fears, and emotions. The film weaves together the past and present, as we witness the book’s journey from its creation to its final destination in modern-day Nova Scotia. Through Alice’s eyes, we experience the magic of surrealism and the power of imagination to transport us to simpler times and worlds beyond our wildest dreams.
