J. Stowe Restoration

J. Stowe specializes in the restoration of exterior millwork. The combination of soffits, facia, bargeboards, friezeboards and the many other mouldings and architectural components we commonly call Gingerbread, have been rotting and deteriorating from neglect over the decades.

As you can see in the gallery below, almost anything can be restored to its original beauty. I use techniques and materials which have been used for decades on historic buildings and homes. The same techniques are used for window and door architraves, pillars, porches and interior woodwork.
A typical restoration would consist of removing all paint and identifying any areas of rot or insect damage. Rotted areas can be consolidated with liquid wood epoxy and built up to their original shape with wood epoxy putty. Salvaged first growth lumber is used whenever possible for larger repairs. The work is meticulous and attention is paid to the technical as well as aesthetic elements since all work has a lifetime warranty provided it is properly maintained. It’s then primed with an alkyd primer and finished with 2 coats of acrylic latex.

Each restoration is unique. My philosophy is to work with each homeowner, and help educate them about their home and how it works, its history and how to restore it with historical accuracy tempered with their expectations and needs always keeping in mind this is not a renovation, rather, a restoration.
