“There is a critical shortage of traditional lime masonry repair professionals who perform small repair and repointing jobs on the vast stock of older houses and commercial buildings across Canada.”
“We are now taking applications for a few seats left for the 2025 Heritage Brick & Stone Repair Program.”
Maintaining and developing traditional skills such as Heritage Masonry is crucially important for the upkeep of historic buildings. Traditional buildings account for around 42% of Canadian housing stock. It was recently estimated that 75% of these need repair, and yet there are currently only a handful of craftspeople practicing small repair jobs utilizing traditional lime in Canada. Heritage Masonry repair is just one of the many traditional crafts that are vital to the preservation of our irreplaceable heritage buildings. Our twelve-week program is now available, offering detailed instruction and a potentially rewarding career.
This program is designed to provide a peer-reviewed learning experience to equip the student with the knowledge and execution of traditional lime repair and restoration. This program will provide mentorship and support from Dr. Christopher Cooper and the support of the Edifice Guild’s Department of Heritage Masonry to boost a very lucrative calling.
